LIVING HOPE BRINGS BLESSINGS

Many people ended their lives because they no longer had strength to bear the trials that life brought and lost hope to keep going.  But still there are a multitude of people who still hold onto their hope despite the struggles and challenges. Clinging onto hope can eventually deliver them to meaning, purpose and honor.

In Lamentations, we can see Prophet Jeremiah’s frustration and sadness through his mourning as he felt that God did not listen to his prayer. In Lamentations 3:8, Jeremiah said, “Yes, when I cry, and call for help, he shuts out my prayer.”  Still, Jeremiah kept holding onto hope although his prayer was unanswered.  He knew and admitted that “No one is cast off by the Lord forever” (Lamentations 3:31).

Looking back into the past, 1997 was a year full of troubles and sorrows.  As Jerusalem was destroyed and deserted, our houses were burnt down to ashes and people were forced to abandon their villages and farms. Our parents and grandparents called upon God but their prayers were not answered immediately as Jeremiah’s. There were tears but we did not lose our hope. No matter where we were, we gathered to worship God together and renewed our hope in God. In Lamentations 3:22-23, Jeremiah said, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”  I believe that God’s love never fails.  Now, God is bestowing upon us the blessings for both body and soul, just as our parents and grandparents hoped for and prayed. Because God lives, our hope is alive.

Reflection

Do I still put my hope in God when He does not answer my prayer intimes of trouble? What is God for us?

Dear Heavenly Father, please help me to have faith in You for the rest of my life.  In good and bad times, may I also know You are my Source of hope.  In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
