STREAM OF TEARS

Bible in a Year: Lamentations 3:40-66, Lamentations 4, Lamentations 5; Hebrew 1; Psalm 119:129-136

“Streams of tears run down my eyes, because they don’t observe your law.”
Psalm 119:136 WEB

I was a hardworking top student when I studied for the matriculation exam. I specifically had confidence in English and Mathematics as I got at least 96 points in the pre-tests. One day, I heard from my friend that the History teacher told other students not to be like me and look up to me.  He also said that unless the students passed all the subjects in the final exam, they would definitely fail.  I was so bothered and ashamed as I felt like he was bad-mouthing me behind my back. The feeling was so strong that I didn’t even want to see his face nor study the subject he taught. Thus, I didn’t pay much attention in the history class. When the final exam was over, I felt as if I had released all the burden I carried for the whole year.

It was the day when the exam result came out. When I saw my father wipe his tears outside of our house on that day, I worried about my result. I ran to hug my dad and I was told I did not pass the matriculation exam. I broke down in tears. He patted me and told me to try harder again.  I wiped my tears and promised him by nodding.  I paid the price of being arrogant with tears and sadness.

Reflection

Jesus warned Peter because He loved him. But Peter was full of himself. He eventually ended up crying as he took the warning lightly.  Can you say that Christ was not sad or did not shed a tear when He turned to Peter? Did you ever make Christ weep?

Prayer

Dear Father, Help us not to break Your commandments and make You sad. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
