TAKE GOOD CARE OF WHAT BELONGS TO GOD
Bible in a Year: 1 Chronicles 12:23-40, 1 Chronicles 13, 1 Chronicles 14; Romans 15:14-33; Psalm 90:1-10
“The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the Lord blessed his household and everything he had.”
1 Chronicles 13:14 NIV
Sometimes, we lack awareness and fail to appreciate some of the things we have in life. In the Old Testament, the Israelites carried the ark of God to the battlefield when they went to fight with the Philistines. Whenever they had the ark of God with them, they gained victory. One time when the Israelites went to fight, the enemy took the ark with them. But they could not keep it because troubles and sickness came upon them. So, they sent the ark back to the Israelites. David and the Israelites were overjoyed to bring back the ark of God. David brought the ark to the Gittite Obed-Edom and his family to host the ark in their home. To be entrusted with this sacred opportunity, Obed-Edom must have been a trustworthy and exemplary steward accountable for a very important assignment from God. Obed-Edom and his family lived in the presence of God for three months and we can imagine the family praising and worshipping God with reverence and joy. It must have also been challenging to safeguard, treasure and dignify the ark for the family. God was pleased with how Obed-Edom took good care of what belonged to God and blessed him and his family.
Our family, friends, jobs, etc., are blessings from the Lord. If we take good care of what belongs to God that He willingly shares with us, we too will surely be blessed.

Today, in which area do I need to be a better steward? Who or what is it that I need to take care of better?

Dear God, teach us to see the value of your gifts in our lives and take good care of them. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
