DO GOOD

The Lord makes our days good and we get to be alive day after day. Our days turn into months and into years quite fast. But since the day God created humans, He provides and blesses us. The life God gives us is most precious and we must daily choose to live a life that is a blessing to others. Just as God does good things for us, we are to do good to others. To do good to others, it is indispensable to lessen our attachment to the things of the world and increase our faith in God.
In Luke 12:16-21, we read about the rich man who had an abundant harvest that he wanted to selfishly store for himself. Although he had wealth, he was poor in the sight of God. Abraham, on the other hand, gave his nephew, Lot, the first choice in choosing the land. Although Abraham took what Lot did not want, God blessed him by leaps and bounds (Genesis 13). Our attachment to things of the earth has the effect of not wanting to do good to others. Moreover, when covetousness for gain increases, faith in God decreases. If we listen to Paul’s advice to Timothy in 1 Timothy 6:17-19, we learn that we are to do good, be rich in good works, and be willing in sharing. This is storing up treasure for the future so we may experience true life. Paul also told us in 2 Corinthians 8:9 that Christ who was rich became poor for our sake so that we may be made rich by Christ’s poverty. As Paul followed Christ, we are to follow Christ through doing good.
