JESUS PRAYS FOR HIS DISCIPLES

Jesus is keenly aware that his disciples are vulnerable members of the earth. Therefore he prayed for his disciples before he was crucified. He prayed for them to withstand difficulties, overcome temptations, and have a firm foundation of faith. Jesus said in John 17:24, “Father, I desire that they also whom you have given me be with me where I am, that they may see my glory which you have given me, for you loved me before the foundation of the world.”
We, who are followers of Christ, ought to pray continually so we will be protected from the devil’s temptations and serious illnesses. Nowadays, the sufferings and hardship from the effects of the COVID-19 get us trapped in worries and fear. We see and hear about the debilitation, and all we can do is pray. But, it is imperative to remember prayer invites God’s presence and power. What is better than covering our world and loved ones with prayers?
Jesus said in John 17:20, “Not for these only do I pray, but for those also who will believe in me through their word.” Since Christ himself prayed for us to keep our faith in His word, we who are believers of Christ ought to pray for one another to hold on to the truth of God, which will empower us to overcome trials of this world. Whoever calls on His name in faith, He will help. Let the word of God rule and sanctify our hearts according to His will.
Reflection
Do we pray daily to God? Do we remember to pray for those who are in need of help? Do we let the word of God take residence in our hearts? Let us diligently practice the discipline of prayer to overcome temptations!
Prayer
Dear Jesus, help us so we will be people with a firm foundation of faith in You and Your word, and we will be praying without ceasing. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
