GROW IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF OUR LORD
Bible in a Year: Daniel 4:19-37, Daniel 5:1-16; 2 Peter 3; Psalm 135:13-21
“Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.”
2 Peter 3:18 NLT
There are signs/symbols that depict growth and advancement. A nation’s growth and stability are measured by the standard of living, employment rate, education and economic growth.
A Christian’s growth can also be measured by the knowledge of our LORD. There must be growth in the Christian life. Because there is life, there must also be growth. This also signifies that growing is a symbol of life. A sign of Christian growth is the bearing of the Fruit of the Spirit.
Peter teaches us about Christian growth in the knowledge of our LORD and in our Savior Christ Jesus. Peter also encourages us that we will grow by going through trials, hardships, tribulations in our lives. The LORD uses hardships and struggles to restore, strengthen, and place us on a firm foundation (1 Peter 5:10). Like an obedient child who shows his gratitude towards his parents by living righteously, our knowledge of God will teach us to know and to serve Him. Knowing and serving Him will bear fruit and this is the sign of Christian growth and development.
Reflection
When a person looks at your life, what kind of fruit(s) of faith and salvation will this person be able to see? What kind of fruit(s) do you wish to bear?
Prayer
Father, help us to want to grow in you. Help us so that we will want to partake in your Word and become a child of God that bears the Fruit of the Spirit. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.
