တၢ်ဒုးဘၣ်ထွဲက့ၤလံာ်စီဆှံဒီးပတၢ်အိၣ်မူ

REBUKE YOU BUT FAVOR YOU

The experience which speaks to me in the light of this Scripture is about a spiritual mother, a teacher, and a godly leader, whose meaningful teaching encouraged students to be useful persons for God and the nation. When I was a student of Kawthoolei Karen Baptist Bible School and College, we once had a play practice that was going to be performed in a fun-night show. During the practice, things did not go well. We said to each other, “Let’s practice in the evening before the show starts.” At that moment, our motherly teacher completely disagreed with us and said, “You don’t say that you are going to practice later, do it right now!” So, we had to keep on practicing.
This mother and teacher encouraged students to commit themselves in gaining not only worldly knowledge, but also godly wisdom higher than all other knowledge and riches of the world. If you made a mistake, she rebuked you straight away in any kind of situation. When she was angry at us, it felt like “the roaring of a lion.” At the same time, we also experienced how much she loved us, the dormitory students. After the rebukes and corrections usually followed blessings and preparation of a good love feast for us. I saw God’s character in the life of this spiritual mother, and this spoke to me that God can also get angry at his children when we disobey. However, God’s favor never fails for us, and it is like dew on grass.
Reflection
When we reflect on our lives, there might be times we made God angry because of our disobedience. However, God’s love is always there for us. D. A. Carson, a great biblical scholar, says, “Do you wish to see God’s love? Look at the cross. Do you wish to see God’s wrath? Look at the cross.” How does God’s favor comfort you today?

Give me your heart, dear Lord Jesus, so that I may not make you angry in my life. In your name I pray. Amen!
