“ပာ်ဆူၣ်သုသး, ဒီးတံးတဟီၣ်တက့ၢ်. ပျံၤတၢ်တဂ့ၤ. ဘၣ်ယိၣ်တၢ်လၢအၤၡူၢ်အစီၤပၤအဃိ, လၢပှၤဂီၢ်မုၢ်ခဲလၢာ် လၢအအိၣ်ဒီးအီၤအဃိတဂ့ၤ. အဂ့ၢ်ဒ်အံၤ, ပှၤလၢအအိၣ်ဒီးပှၤအံၤ, အါန့ၢ်ပှၤအိၣ်ဒီးအီၤတက့ၢ်လီၤ.”

DON’T BE AFRAID, DON’T BE DISCOURAGED

“Be strong and courageous! Don’t be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria or his mighty army, for there is a power far greater on our side!”
2 Chronicles 32:7 NLT
In December 2019, my students and I went on a mission trip to the Mae Hong Son area. We did not have proper documents. We prayed and went in faith, but we were afraid. Halfway through the trip, Thai police impounded our vehicle. There was nothing we could do. We were terrified. We called leaders from the school or the community to come and get us out of our predicament. No leaders came. Some leaders said, “It’s too late.” We felt scared and hopeless. They put 24 of us and the drivers in Jail. To tell the story short, we were in jail for three days and were able to get out. We then continued on with our mission trip and agenda.
When we were held, I said, “Because we did not have proper documentation, human beings could not help us. Only God can deliver us. We do not need to be afraid. We do not need to be discouraged.” I encouraged my brothers not to be afraid, but to trust in the Lord Who could help us. This experience reminds me of 2 Chronicles 32:7, where King Hezekiah encouraged his military men by saying, “Be strong and courageous! Don’t be afraid or discouraged because of the king of Assyria or his mighty army, for there is a power far greater on our side.” We know God is with us in hard times and He can liberate us because God is the Almighty God having dominion over all creation. Do not be afraid! Do not be discouraged!
Reflection
Are you fearful of man more than God? It is only the fear of God that can deliver us from the fear of man.
Prayer
God, help me so I would not be fearful of man more than You. Give me courage in tough times and grant me the heart to trust in you at all times.
