SINCERITY

Long ago in my younger days, I wrote a love letter to a girl quoting a popular pop song from one famous Burmese singer, saying; “Maybe I am falling in love with you.”  She responded favorably and we had some lovely and joyful few years until we found out our differences, parted our ways, and moved on. Finally, we both settled down in different places with our own loving respective family.  We are still good friends today.

King Solomon composed a very beautiful song for his first love. He praised her beauty. He wrote how much he loved her and how precious she was for him with touching details on how they met and consummated their love. It was just that later he took 699 more wives. Did I lie to that girl back then? No, I did love her. Did King Solomon lie to that girl? I would like to think not. The expression of Solomon’s deep love was for her and it must have taken him days and days to have crafted such beautiful lyrics.

It is good to say things truthfully out of our hearts as sincerely as humanly possible. The things we do for our friends and family and the words we say to another person should come truthfully from our hearts. In this commercialized world today, everything becomes so artificial. An example is companies selling products as if to help people, but practically for greedy profits. Peter challenges us to love one another with pure hearts (Peter 1:22). Our love for one another should be a characteristic of every church. 

Reflection

Have we conducted ourselves in sincerity as of today? Do the words we say come straight from our hearts?  A Nobel Prize-winning author, José Saramago, once said; “If I’m sincere today, what does it matter if I regret it tomorrow?”

Prayer

Dear Father God, help your children to love You and love their neighbors with sincerity. In Jesus’ Name we pray, Amen.
