WE ARE THE LORD’S

Bible in a Year: 1 Chronicles 9, 1 Chronicles 10:1-14; Romans 14:1-18; Proverbs 18:17-24, Proverbs 19:1-2

“For none of us lives to himself, and none dies to himself. For if we live, we live to the Lord. Or if we die, we die to the Lord. If therefore we live or die, we are the Lord’s.”
Romans 14:7-8 WEB

The two Bible verses we just read remind us that “We are the Lord’s.” Because we belong to God, we are to give glory to only God. Sometimes, we do not know to whom we belong, and therefore we feel worried, insecure, or proud, which leads to conflicts within the church and discouragement in ministry. These characteristics reflect the weaknesses of the believers. Paul encourages us to remember we are the Lord’s. Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, came into our lives in the severity and depth of our sin and died on the cross for you and me. The breath that we are taking continually belongs to God and not to us.

Because we belong to God, whether we live or die, it is for the Lord. That is why the very important thing we need to understand is that we are to live a life that glorifies God. Paul affirmed this understanding in his writing. The almighty God enters into our going and coming and our daily living to walk with us and care for us. Because we are His, He redeems and delivers us. He chooses us to live a life that becomes a blessing in His kingdom work. We, believers in Christ, must live to serve God, please Him, surrender to Him, and live for only Him.

Reflection

What are the things that we need to be most careful about and keep away from in our Christian life? Do I regularly practice gratitude to God? Do I bless others? Do I put God first and glorify Him? Do I obey the word of God?

Prayer

Dear Jesus Christ, please help me so I will live to please You and give you glory as You are my God and I am Yours. In Jesus’ Name, I pray to the Father God in Heaven, Amen.
