OBEDIENCE IS IMPORTANT
Bible in a Year: 2 Kings 24:8-20, 2 Kings 25; Romans 1:18-32; Psalm 84:8-12
“For a day in your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.”

Once, there was a lake in a forest. A duck family lived near the lake. Everyday, they went to the lake, played and searched for food. The parents and the children had a lot of fun spending time on the lake. Mother duck warned her children, “We only come to play in the lake during daytime. We cannot come here at night because there is a beast that will devour us.” One night, one of the children ducks disobeyed his parents and sneaked into the lake. Just as his mother said, the beast caught and devoured the young duck. While this story may be simple, we will find that we can be like that young duck in so many ways. When we disobey God, troubling consequences automatically appear. In 2 Kings 24 and 25, we learned that King Jehoiachin and King Zedekiah were no different from the little duck that disobeyed its parents. Because of their disobedience of the word of God, they were defeated and ill-treated by the Babylon king.
The word of God tells us that if we obey God, we will be fulfilled and freed from the fear of evil. “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen than the fat of rams” (1 Samuel 15:22). Jesus said, “If you love me, keep my commandments.”

Obedience to God is most important in our lives.
