GOD GIVES LIPS WITH POWERFUL WORDS

Bible In A Year: 1Kings 1, 1Kings 2:1-12;  Acts 10:23-48; Acts 11:1-18;
Psalm 74:10-17

“Peter opened his mouth and said, “Truly I perceive that God doesn’t show favoritism; but in every nation he who fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.”
Acts 10:34-35 WEB

This Bible verse tells us that Peter opened his mouth and revealed his testimony regarding God’s righteousness. In the same way, David said, “ They will utter the memory of your great goodness, and will sing of your righteousness” (Psalm 145:7).

Our life on earth is filled with many experiences. The Bible tells us regarding David’s very difficult life experience in 2 Samuel 15:30-31.  We read about his own son Absalom conspiring against him, and as a result, David had to flee for his life with his people.  David went up Mount of Olives and wept as he went. He covered his head and walked barefoot. All who went with him also covered their heads and were weeping as they went. They told him, “ Your counselor Ahithophel is with your son Absalom and is the counselor to him also.”  How hurtful that must have been for David!  Not only was his own son conspiring against him, his counselor also betrayed him.  Trouble was pressing in from all sides.  David left 10 concubines in Jerusalem to take care of the palace.  Ahithophel advised Absalom to sleep with his father’s concubines in daylight.  Absalom was pleased with the advice and followed through with the advice.  David faced difficulties and grief surrounded him. In Psalm 55:9, David prayed to God and said, “Lord, let Ahithophal’s advice be foolish and in vain.” We can see that David endured much again and again, and yet his mouth continued to sing God’s righteousness.  Therefore, God was close to David and gave him victory over his enemies. Indeed, God gives lips that utter powerful words.

Reflection

Does your mouth speak words that give life?  God can give lips that speak powerful words.  There is nothing that God cannot do.

Prayer

Dear God, there is nothing that you cannot do.  Please give us lips that sing praises to your righteousness forever.  In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
