‘‘ဒီးပိာ်မုၣ်န့ၣ်ဟံးန့ၢ်တၢ်, ဒီးဒါလီၤကျၢၢ်ဘၢထံပူၤအခိၣ်ထိး, ဒီးလိလီၤဘုဂံာ်အသးလၢအဖီခိၣ်, ဒီးတၢ်တမံၤန့ၣ်ပှၤတသ့ၣ်ညါဘၣ်.’’

GOD IS MY HIDING PLACE

I lived in Plaw Klo village in the eastern part of Dawei. On February 16, 1997, Burmese soldiers came to our village. Before entering the village, they started shooting so we had to run into the jungle and hide. Having to stay in the jungle too long, both my children, four years old and two years old, got sick with malaria. We ran out of milk powder for my four-year-old, so we went to a village nearby, which was close to the market. My village was Maw Ma Tru and the village where I looked for help was Ga Neh Kaw. We thought we would seek help from friends there for food and medicine. Once we got there, we saw villagers running all over the place, but they put us in a bamboo hut saying, “Don’t worry. Just stay here. The Burmese soldiers will not see you.” But then, the owner of the house fled to the mountain stream area. When the villagers heard the Burmese soldiers were fast approaching, they ran away. I asked where they would run to and they answered, “over there.” I knew they did not want us to go with them, so we just stayed in the hut. I told my family not to get out of the hut. We went out only when we needed to fetch water for cooking and drinking. I cannot tell you how many times I prayed day and night at that time. I said to God, “Lord, our friends left us. All we have is You.” From the time when we fled from our village to the time when we returned lasted two months. We saw the Burmese soldiers passing by, but they never got too close to our hut. I believe God answered my prayers and hid us from the enemy. Just as the woman hid Jonathan and Ahimaaz, God protected us from harm. Later, we ended up in Htam Hin refugee camp. After being in the camp for seven years, I ran into a friend and he asked, “Teacher, remember the place where you stayed in Ga Neh Kaw village? The Burmese soldiers never got into that hut. They always went past that place. What did you leave there? Do you have some kind of occult power that you use? Why don’t you share some with me?” I answered, “My power is my prayer.”

Dear Father God, just as you have hidden me under the shelter of your wings, please continue to keep me safe. Let your Holy Spirit rule my heart and guide my way until the time I meet You in eternity. Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
