LIGHT

“For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set you as a light for the Gentiles, that you should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.”

If we read Acts 13:42-52, we will learn that Paul and Barnabas preached among the Jews and they had the ears of the crowd that followed them. They told the crowd, “For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set you as a light for the Gentiles, and you should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth” (Acts 13:47). Many heard the Good News and believed. The Lord told us that we are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). Everyone needs light. Nobody wants the darkness. Therefore, it is important to shine our light in our own corner as the Lord intends us to. Just as the plant that gets the sunlight is healthier than the plant that does not, some of us may be a brighter or dimmer light depending upon the limitations we have in our circumstances. No matter what kind of light we are shining now, do not be discouraged. The important thing is to shine whatever light we can. I remember in my childhood the time when we celebrated Christmas Eve. Inside the church was a big bright lantern that lit the whole sanctuary, but its light did not reach the stairs. Therefore, candles were lit for people to see the steps on the stairs and not get hurt. It does not matter if we are a lantern or a candle. What matters is that we shine the light on the path to Jesus for the salvation of the world. For salvation to reach the uttermost parts of the earth, all lights are needed.
Reflection
Jesus wants us to be a light, but if we lose our light, where would that lead us?
Prayer
Dear Father, help us so our light will not be extinguished and our path will not be lost. Please hold our hands and show us the way. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
