GOD DOES NOT LIKE A CROOKED HEART

Bible in A Year: Judges 7:8-25, Judges 8; John 5:31-47; Proverbs 11:19-28

“Those who are perverse in heart are an abomination to Yahweh, but those whose ways are blameless are his delight.”
Proverbs 11:20  WEB

The word of God tells us that God detests a crooked heart, which does not bring blessings into our lives.

Once when I was young, I went to school and my brother followed me.  When we got to the school compound, we saw someone riding a horse. I don’t know how he was riding it. He came straight to us and the horse stepped on my brother.  When I got home. I was scolded, caned, and blamed for not taking care of my brother. I held onto anger and bitterness towards the horse rider. Those feelings did not go away even when I got older. I did not like him. Whenever I saw him, my heart immediately turned crooked.

Today, I am able to let go of unforgiveness. God teaches us to forgive each other. It is not God’s will we harbor unforgiveness. If we are right with God, He will be pleased with us and bless us in every situation. We may hold onto anger, hatred and bitterness for many reasons. But we should choose forgiveness. We must remind ourselves that we are not blameless before God. Just as God forgives us, let us forgive one another’s shortcomings.

Reflection

Forgiveness frees us from the possession of a crooked heart. Who do you need to forgive to receive this freedom?

Prayer

God, we confess our shortcomings.  Thank you for forgiving us. Help us to forgive one another. I pray in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
