ANYWHERE WITH JESUS

“You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,
as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.”
Psalm 139:15

When I was still a child, my parents enrolled me in Sunday School at U Po Shane Quarter (Insein). Teacher Aung Tun Tin gave us Bible lessons and also taught us songs for a few weeks. After that, I participated in a singing competition at Zion Church. The title of the hymn was “Anywhere with Jesus.” Around 1972, I was in sixth grade. I did not finish school. I had to leave home to go to Ler Doh village. I slept there for one night and then went to Play Lo Klo River and spent a few nights with my uncle. We then headed to a Karen organization at Moo Kaw Sar, Battalion 8. After six months, I got to go through a lot of training. Then, I was sent to be trained in the center region and even earned first prize in that training. I was later asked to serve in the brigade office and work with Tharah Saw Eh Ya. We traveled with the troops to Mu Traw, Pa An, Du Plah, and Du Tha Du regions. When the battle took place in Ra Ma Ti, the fight was so fierce and the enemies were so strong that we had to withdraw. In 1975, the enemy advanced to the eastern mountain and carried out their “4 Cuts” strategy (Cut food, funds, recruits, and information). As a result, our army was shaken. Our territory became very unstable and people had to flee. By God’s grace, although we went through tremendous challenges, the organizations and people in our region did not perish.

When I think about my life experience, the catastrophes that fell on me and my family were hard to comprehend. Why did they have to happen? The only comfort was in praising God and in knowing that we can be at peace with our circumstance because just as this hymn suggests, Jesus is with us everywhere. I was determined to serve my people until the day I die. In mid 2007, I assumed responsibilities until March 26, 2013. God had a different plan and I was resettled as a refugee in a third country. Because Jesus is everywhere I go and He takes care of me, I am thankful to him with all my heart.

Today, where are you? Wherever you are, Jesus is with you.

Prayer

Father God, although we do not know our life journey, You are the God who goes with us, takes care of us, delivers us from peril, and gives us a new life. We are grateful for being with us wherever we are. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
