GOD IS KIND TO US; ARE WE KIND TO OUR NEIGHBORS?
Bible in a Year: Ezekiel 33:21-33, Ezekiel 34, Ezekiel 35; James 2; Psalm 128:1-6
“Help, O Lord, for the godly are fast disappearing! The faithful have vanished from the earth! Neighbors lie to each other, speaking with flattering lips and deceitful hearts.”
Psalm 128:1-2 NLT
As we are God’s children, He wants to bless us all. I feel that I have been abundantly blessed by God. One great lesson I learned came from my parents, who dearly love me and my siblings. These parents are not from my Karen ethnic group. They are Americans who are very kind to the Karen people. My siblings came from many countries. My parents are compassionate and they look at people with the eyes of Jesus Christ. After my biological parents went their separate ways, I came to America in 2008. These American parents adopted me and two other siblings. They are not Christians. But, their heart is that of Christ. They do not look down on their neighbors. They never complain or provoke their children. They do not blame others. When they heard about a child in China being abandoned by her parents, they brought her home and adopted her. Adopting a child in America is most difficult. The cost is monumental. For my parents money is not the most important thing, but helping others is a priority. I witness the kindness of my parents with my own eyes and I believe they are blessed by God although they are not Christians, doing beautiful work for others and being loved by many. Learning from this example, it is imperative we love and help one another. There is no place to look down on others and judge them. This will not please God. Let us not judge our neighbors. If we are kind and loving to our neighbors, we will also be blessed in Christ.
Reflection
God is kind to us; are we kind to our neighbors? Do we love our neighbors as ourselves?
Prayer
Dear God, you do not despise your children. You love us as Your own. You picked us from bondage and made us your children. Give us the maturity to increasingly love our neighbors as ourselves. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
