THOSE WHO SOW IN TEARS

Bible in a Year: Ezekiel 28, Ezekiel 29; Hebrews 29, Hebrews 12:14-29; Psalm 126:1-6

“Those who sow in tears will reap in joy.”
Psalm 126:5 WEB

This Bible verse took me to the memory of the past when I was in school. In 1987, when I was in 10th grade, my friend, who already passed 10th grade, gave me a Burmese essay book. I was so happy because we did not have enough books and we could not find any to buy them at that time. It was a very thick book, divided by topics respectively for both 9th and 10th grade. One day, some friends borrowed my book and I gave it to them. The next day when I went to school and asked them to get my book back, nobody knew where the book was. The history teacher soon came into the classroom after the bell rang. I could not stand up and greet the teacher. I was crying my heart out. The teacher came and asked me why I was crying. My friend told him I lost a book. He asked my classmates where the book was, and no one made a sound. He told me, “Don’t worry. I will find another book for you.” But, I did not have the book and had to copy the materials from others until the academic year ended. My tears were shed not just because I had to copy teaching materials by hand, but also because I love books. I learned so much from reading books. I also wanted to learn Burmese language. I do not hate the language. If we know different languages, it can help us. The language I love and cried for is now helping me with (1) comparing scriptures in Karen with the Burmese version for better understanding and (2) helping other ethnic groups by speaking in Burmese. I can say I am reaping the joy of learning Burmese language in tears. When we sow, we may sow in tears, when we reap, surely we will reap in joy.

Reflection

Think of a situation in which you sowed in tears, but later reaped in joy.
How does it encourage you today?

Prayer

God, I thank you for letting me reap bushels of harvest in joy. You do great things for me and I am joyful. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
