YOU ARE REDEEMED

Bible in a Year: Hosea 3, Hosea 4, Hosea 5; Romans 6:15-23, Romans 7:1-6; Psalm 88:1-9

“For sin will not have dominion over you. For you are not under law, but under grace.”
Romans 6:14 WEB

We learn from Hosea 3:1-6 God’s plan for Prophet Hosea. That plan would have been extremely challenging, if not impossible, for us to follow. However, Hosea did not argue, but obeyed God. He married Gomer, who committed adultery. Learning from how Hosea bought Gomer out of slavery, I would also like to remind you that “You are redeemed.”  The Bible tells us our redemption cost Jesus Christ His body, blood, and life.

(1) Redeemed by the Body of Christ: (Hosea 3:2-3), Prophet Hosea paid a price to buy a lady in prostitution, married her, and told her, “You are to live with me many days; you must not be a prostitute or be intimate with any man, and I will behave the same way toward you.” Likewise, we were bought with the price of Christ’s body that was abused and crushed because of His love that desires us to not perish. Moreover, just like Hosea wanted Gomer to be close and faithful to Him, God wants to have a close and faithful relationship with us.

(2) Redeemed by the Blood of Christ: (Romans 6:22-23), Gomer was freed from living a sinful life because of Hosea’s obedience and humility to endure shame and to commit himself to her. Gomer became Hosea’s beloved wife and his desire for her was to bear good fruits in holiness. Likewise, Jesus Christ suffered shame and humiliation like Hosea did. Yet, Christ humbled Himself and His blood was shed so we are redeemed from the bondage of sin and adopted as God’s own children. Because the blood of Christ has made us holy, we are to bear good fruits in holiness.

(3) Redeemed by the Life of Christ: (Romans 6:3, 6, 15-18; Hosea 6:1-3), We cannot remain in the dark and continue to live. We need light. No light, no life! Hosea did not desire to see his wife in the dark and therefore committed his life to her. Jesus Christ also gave His life so we will be saved and receive eternal life. Because Christ gave His life for us, we should no longer remain in the dark. Instead, we ought to seek Christ to know Him more intimately and learn to appreciate the offerings of His body, blood, and life.

Reflection

How would you make sure you do not forget the truth that your life has been redeemed with the Body, Blood, and Life of Christ?

Prayer

Dear God, please help us to abide in Your love and grace.  In Jesus’ Name we pray.  Amen.
