GOD DESIRES OUR OBEDIENCE FOR HIS GLORY

“And he cried out to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, “Yahweh says, ‘Because you have been disobedient to Yahweh’s mouth, and have not kept the commandment which Yahweh your God commanded you, but came back, and have eaten bread and drank water in the place of which he said to you, “Eat no bread, and drink no water;” your body will not come to the tomb of your fathers.’”

There is a precious saying – the best place to give a testimony for Him is wherever God places you right now. The Lord commanded a man to go to Bethel and deliver a message. The Lord also gave a sign to prove his message: the altar would split apart and its ashes would be poured out on the ground. God revealed the sign only to this man. When King Jeroboam heard this prophecy, he pointed at him and shouted to seize him, but the king’s hand became paralyzed and he could not pull it back. Just as the man of God said, the altar split apart and its ashes were poured out on the ground. The king had to tell the prophet, “Now intercede for the favor of Yahweh your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored again.” The man of God interceded and the king’s hand was restored. The king invited the man to his palace for refreshment and reward, to which the man replied, “Even if you gave me half of your house, I would not go in with you, neither would I eat bread nor drink water in this place; for so was it commanded me by Yahweh’s word, saying, ‘You shall eat no bread, drink no water, and don’t return by the way that you came.’” But then what happened in Bethel was that an old prophet and his sons lied to this man of God. They invited him to come and eat with them and said God approved of it. Consequently, the man of God believed and fell to sin. Even his body was not buried in the grave of his ancestors. A lion killed him. Whichever task God asks you to do, do it! Wherever God takes you, go! Whatever words God speaks to you, listen and follow! Don’t waiver. Don’t be ashamed. Don’t sell out the power God gives you. By doing what God asks you to, you will have a testimony for Him. God desires us to be faithful and obedient to shine His glory. There is no place to obey man more than God.
Reflection
So many things try to make us doubt God’s word. How will you hold on to faith firmly?

Dear God, thank you for adopting us as you children and giving us opportunities to serve You. To firmly stand on Your promises, anoint us with Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
