SHADOW
Bible In A Year: 2 Samuel 14, 2 Samuel 15:1-12; Acts 5:12-42;
Proverbs 14:15-24
“They even carried out the sick into the streets, and laid them on cots and mattresses, so that as Peter came by, at the least his shadow might overshadow some of them.”

Peter’s shadow reminds me of three shadows in which I received shelter and grace. Let us learn about three shadows God provides for us through our parents, the church, and God Himself.
1. The Shadow of the Parents – We learned in 1 Kings 11:12 and 1 Chronicles 28:9-10 that Solomon had the privilege of building the Lord’s temple and this privilege came through the blessings from the shadow of his father, David.
2. The Shadow of the Church – Paul and Barnabas helped the church with the organization, ordination, and exhortation for the disciples to remain faithful and courageous in the Lord (Acts 14:23). Because our Karen children and people are blessed to be in churches, we receive life blessings, spiritual growth, and habits contrasting starkly against those of the world. This is the truth for us that God’s blessings flow to us through the church.
3. The Shadow of God – Psalm 121:5 reads, “Yahweh is your keeper. Yahweh is your shade on your right hand.” Just as the mother bird and the hen gather their chicks and keep them safe, those who reside in the shade of God are protected. There is no reason to worry or fear. Instead, self-control and courage are blessings available under God’s wings.
Once, the enemy came into the village and the villagers fled in fear. They shot our animals for food and left havoc in the village. Once the villagers knew the enemy was gone, they came back to their respective homes. One villager found his home burned down to the ground. Then, he heard the cheeping sound, so he looked around to trace the sound. He found a dead mother hen. But, all chicks under the wings of the mother hen were alive and chirping.
Reflection
Do you remain and rest under the shadows of your parents, your church, and your God? Because of the shade of Jesus Christ, the devil’s wicked schemes cannot have control over our lives.
Prayer
Dear Father God, thank you for adopting us as your children, being our Shade, and giving us life. Help us so we will be obedient children always taking refuge in the shadow of Your wings. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
