DRIVE OUT WHAT WILL TROUBLE US
Bible in A Year: Judges 1, Judges 2:1-5; John 4:1-26; Proverbs 11:9-18
“When Israel had grown strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and didn’t utterly drive them out. Ephraim didn’t drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, but the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them.”

God told the Israelites to drive out the Canaanites once they took possession of the land. However, the Israelites did not obey. Later, other nations led the Israelites astray to worship false gods. When my father decided to believe in Jesus and got baptized, he told his mother that he would become a follower of Jesus Christ. My grandmother was so furious that he was not able to return home for three years. Only after a very long wait for three years, he visited my grandmother and she welcomed him back as her child. Since then, my father started sharing the Gospel with his mother. After more than three years, many lives were changed to receive and believe in Christ. It was not just my grandmother. All of my grandfather’s siblings also placed their faith in Christ. Because of my grandmother’s faith, they drove out all the demons associated with their previous belief system.
Prior to becoming a Christian, my father used spells and incantations for healing. I also saw my mother engaging in the same practice. Once when there was a thunderstorm with lightning, my mother took a lump of pickled shrimp paste, used a spell, and put it in the stove fire. The storm gradually decreased and ceased. My father also had a necklace that had a monk’s image and little bags that I did not know what they were. He believed he was bullet-proof because of that necklace. Women could not touch that necklace. But, once he put his faith in Jesus Christ, he threw it away at a place I did not know. I am thankful he did not give me that necklace. My father drove out and disposed of things that would trouble his children and family. For that I am very grateful.
Reflection
Once we believe in Jesus Christ, we must drive out things that are against Christ, so we will see God’s power and glory working and shining in our homes and lives. In your life, is there anything that is against Christ and troublesome to your family? Will you drive it out now?
Prayer
Lord, please help me so I do not serve two masters. Instead, I would be faithful to you and trust in you alone as You are the God who can help me in all things. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
