TASTE AND SEE THAT THE LORD IS GOOD

Dear brothers and sisters, have you tasted the God you worship? We read in Psalm 34:8, “Oh taste and see that Yahweh is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.” To know if a package is heavy or light or a curry is bland or salty, we have to lift it or taste it. In life, without trying and testing, it would be hard to find the truth. Likewise, without examining our beliefs, we would just be Christians in name. We will not truly be Christ’s disciples. Taste the Lord as Gideon did. He laid a fleece of wool on the threshing floor and asked for a sign of the dew wetting the fleece alone while the ground was to remain dry. And the Lord did so. Again, he asked for a sign of the dew wetting the ground while the fleece was to remain dry. And the Lord did as Gideon requested.
In 2018, I told eight of my family and church members, “Let’s give all our income for one month to the church.” As we know, if we get a check for $2,000, about $500 goes to deductions, which leaves us with $1,500. I said, “Let’s not just give the net income. Let’s give the gross income. Can you do it?” They replied, “Yes, we can.” My monthly income was $1,000, my wife’s income was $2,000, my two older sons made $2,000 each, my other son made $800, and my youngest son made $40 per week. The church treasurer also contributed his income of $3,000. We lose nothing from making those gifts. This is also a way of tasting God. We know that if we give to God, we will be blessed many times, but some of us do not dare to taste God. The devil lies to us that we will lose or be in trouble if we give to the Lord, which makes us worry. That is why some people are not liberated from the prison of worries and burdens. Some of us live a life not so different from those who do not know God. We become a stumbling block instead of a good witness who shares the good taste of the Lord. Therefore, to be freed from the devil’s lie, let us remain in God’s word with faith and continually taste His goodness.

How might God want us to taste Him? How can we remain increasingly in God’s word?
