BEAUTY IN BODY AND SPIRIT

Most of us usually work hard at looking good physically. We try to find many ways to beautify ourselves. God created us and we are already beautifully made. But some of us feel discontent and spend large sums of money to surgically reconstruct our face and body parts that we feel look ugly. For people not to look down on us, we wear trendy clothes, fix our hair, and put on expensive makeup. On the other hand, we neglect our spiritual beauty. We do not weigh in on the qualities of our spiritual beauty. I once heard a Burman man say, “Christians look good only on the outside. They are no different from us. Some of them are even worse.” I felt hurt and offended, but I could not say anything back since there is some truth in what he said. Some Christian families split, fight, and commit adultery due to self-indulgence. This presents spiritual ugliness that is a stumbling block to those who do not know Christ. Moreover, when some Christian leaders see those who have not been to church, they blame them instead of gently inviting them back to church. They think they are better than others. Another hurtful thing is gossip. Although they may have graduated from Bible schools and have education, some religious leaders choose to see only the dark side of people. Nobody is perfect in this world. We all have weaknesses and shortcomings. Let us Christians be a good example by assessing our beauty inside according to the scripture, shine the light of Christ, and share His grace.

Prayer
Dear Father, help us to seek beauty not only in body, but also in spirit. Guide us to read Your word and deny the devil to enter our hearts. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
