GOD KEEPS ME ALIVE

Bible in a Year: Ezekiel 1, Ezekiel 2, Ezekiel 3; Hebrew 4:14-16, Hebrew 5:1-10; Psalm 119:153-160

“All of your words are truth. Every one of your righteous ordinances endures forever.”
Psalm 119:160 WEB

The psalmist hoped that God witnessed his pain, hardship, and concerns.  He also wanted God to recognize his love for the Lord and how he lived up to His commandments.

Sometimes, my faith in God waivers. I act like a child. But, when I look back, I realize that God’s blessings are so numerous that I can hardly count them. During one Summer holiday, I was so excited because a cousin of mine asked me to be her bridesmaid. I was sixteen then.  The wedding was at a village called ‘Maw Koe Der’ in a very remote area in Taungoo. I looked forward to climbing the mountain, seeing God’s beautiful creation, and walking in the forest.  When the wedding was over, I went with my uncle to visit his village. When we reached the mountain top, I looked down the deep valley and saw a grove of betel nut trees. The valley was so deep that I could only see the tops of the trees. They were round and green. The path that we had to travel was very dusty because last night a herd of cows and oxen walked along it. Suddenly, I stepped on soft ground, and I slipped and fell. As I was rolling down the valley I hit a tree and got stuck on it. An elderly man told me not to move, but to wait for a moment. He cut down a bamboo tree, cleaned the branches, and then lowered it to me. He told me to grab the bamboo firmly. They pulled me slowly until I was safe in their arms. I thanked them for saving me from falling. We continued on our journey down the valley until we reached the betel-nut grove. When I looked up I was so stunned because the tree on which I got stuck was just a tiny plant. God saw I was in trouble and He rescued me. It was 40 years ago, but whenever I think of that moment, it still makes my heart race.

Reflection

Looking back to the past, there will be many questions to ask about our lives. The one correct answer is “God keeps us alive.” For what purposes do you think God keeps you alive? Would you want God to recognize how much you love and obey Him?

Prayer

Father, teach us to number our days and always count our blessings.  In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
