THE RIGHT DISCIPLINE

Every parent loves their child. Some parents love their children so much that they hesitate to discipline them when they make mistakes. As a result, the child no longer knows right from wrong. When children do not learn to distinguish right from wrong while they are young, they will suffer as they grow up. My grandmother had nine children. Her family was financially tight because her husband was a school teacher with a meager salary. They worked hard to make ends meet. Despite the difficulties, grandma never failed to teach her children. She disciplined them verbally and spanked them when necessary. She hit her son for acting mischievously while having dinner by calling the cat with the chicken sound. She also whipped her daughters for not coming straight back home after Saturday Women’s worship service. She was very religious; she had family devotion two times everyday, once in the morning and once in the evening.  Although grandma went back to her heavenly father’s home, her children sometimes talk about how strict she was in a humorous way.  All the children grew up well and devout like their mother. These are the blessings of a mother’s teaching. As parents, we need to introduce our children to God  and teach them to walk in the right way from an early age. I wish that every parent would be a good example for the children teaching them according to God’s will.

What are the challenges of disciplining children? Ask God for wisdom.

Dear Father, help us to not be toxic parents. Give us wisdom to lead our children in the right path, and bless them. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
