DEPEND ON GOD

In February 1992, my parents still lived in the Karen territory. At that time they had to face the invasion of the enemy. They were very afraid and did not get to live in their own home. To stay alive, they had to run and sleep in the jungle. My mother said I was only two months old at that time. My parents were poor mountain dwellers. The enemy would come and rob them of their possessions. As a result, they had to sleep in the bushes and under the trees. It was a time of tremendous despair for my grandparents as well. At night, some had to be awake to keep watch while some slept. Not all of them could sleep at the same time. One night my mother was assigned to be the watch person. She had a hard time staying awake. She said to God, “I can’t stay awake. I really want to sleep.”  She started reciting Psalm 4:8, “In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety.” Then, she fell asleep. Everyone also fell asleep. They later found out that the enemy was heading their way, but when they reached the crossroad, they chose the road away from my parents’ hiding place. Unfortunately, the other road led them to a village in which they shot and killed the villagers. Had they chosen the road that led to my parents’ hiding place, they would have definitely found my family. God delivered us step by step and we ended up in a refugee camp, where we got to take shelter and had food and clothes. I was able to go to school. We could worship God freely. On August 6, 2014, God opened the way for us to resettle in a third country. We got a chance to be physically well and also grow spiritually. We praise God for He is worthy of all praises.
