GOD’S HELP

I live in Yangon, the  largest  city of Burma.  As some may say, those who live in big cities have a convenient life. So it was for me. I did housework at home, and when it was time for work, I went to work. On Sundays, I went to church. I lived peacefully without having to care much.  In June of 2005, there was a bomb explosion at the Junction 8 mall. An incident like that had never occured in the heart of downtown in my lifetime. People were shocked, scared, and anxious by the impact of this incident. Even Yangon was not safe anymore. I became fearful of making routine trips. I was worried there would be another explosion at another place. One Sunday, when I was attending a worship service, I heard a sermon relating to Isaiah 43:2. The preacher said, “We do not need to be afraid.  Wherever we go and wherever we are, God is there.”  I was then reminded that the One who always helps us in our life is the One we worship. We do not have to worry because He will always deliver us. Our lives were shaken again in 2008 when Cyclone Nargis hit Yangon. The wind was so strong that buildings collapsed and trees fell causing power outage and blockage on the roads. It was very difficult to go out to buy food or collect water. Subsequently, there was an earthquake. I was in shock as I was before. Then again, I remembered. In our life, even though we have to face difficulties, fears, and sufferings, the One who is always helping us is the One we worship.  We cannot live on our strength alone. May we know and praise God for the joy we have because of His help.

Both in good and bad times, we are always surrounded by God’s help.
