OPEN WIDE YOUR HEART

“As a fair exchange–I speak as to my children–open wide your hearts also.”  
2 Corinthians 6:13 NIV

Once there was a pastor who was prideful about his big church and all the activities they held. His conversation was mostly about his church. One time a friend asked him, “Will you attend the regional assembly, the district meeting, or the convention conference?” He answered, “My friend, I am really busy with my church work. There is so much to do.” His friend again asked, “How about the training for pastors?” The pastor replied, “We already went to Bible school for four years. We don’t need it.” Today, we are wise in our own eyes and see that only what we do is good and effective. We do not welcome input from others. Things constantly are changing and developing in our surroundings. If we care only about our church, our understanding and attention will only concern what is going on in our church. This attitude will compromise our growth. Just as our physical body needs many parts to work together, our spiritual body requires sharing and laboring together with other churches and faith organizations. Paul asked the Corinthians to reciprocate the affection he and his fellows showed to them. Paul said, “Open wide your heart.” We are to open wide our hearts to laboring together in love with others, exploring the scriptures, and reading to keep abreast and to grow.

Dear Father God, please instruct us to seek Your wisdom and open wide our hearts as we respond to Your call in furthering the Gospel. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
