‘‘ဘၣ်ဆၣ်ဒီးယွၤဧၢ, နမ့ၢ်ပပၢ်လီၤ. ပဝဲဒၣ်အံၤပမ့ၢ်ကပံာ်ဟီၣ်ခိၣ်, ဒီးနဲဒၣ်နမ့ၢ်ပှၤတ့သပၢၤလီၤ. ဒီးပမ့ၢ်တၢ်လၢနမၤလၢနစုခဲလၢာ်လီၤ.’’

HOPEFUL PRAYER

Bible in a Year: Isaiah 63, Isaiah 64, Isaiah 65:1-16; Ephesians 4:17-32, Ephesians 5:1-7; Psalm 112:1-10

“Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.”  
Isaiah 64:8 NIV

When the Israelites were taken to Babylon as slaves, they were ill-treated and suffered terribly. Their hopes were nearly gone. At that time, the most they could do was to pray to God for hope. One of their hopeful prayers was “Yet you, Lord, are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8 NIV)  The meaning of this prayer showed that they had to go through this bitter experience so that God would teach them, mold and make them into the most valuable pots or vessels. The experience of going through the hardest times in life can instill the highest value for all of us. The difficult and hard times can prepare us for a life of value and wonder. In one way, hardship is God’s plan to uplift and increase the value of life for us all. I remember a time in my life, when I was studying and writing my thesis; It was a real hardship. I struggled with lots of reading and analyzing without sleep in writing the thesis. Although I tried my best, the thesis advisors were not satisfied with my work. Finally, I was so frustrated that all my hope was nearly gone.  But when I placed myself and the difficulties at the feet of God, I regained my strength, hope and knowledge from God. Through that difficult and hard time, I felt like I was the happiest man on the day that the dissertation approval certificate was issued.  Dear friends, are you facing difficult and hard times? Know that the sign of your blessings has appeared. The sign is that God has created you so that your life will live out the highest values. When you pray to God, think of yourself as a piece of clay and let God make and mold you. If you do so, you will truly become a winner, who lives out the highest values that matter to the Kingdom of God.

Dear God, please help me to understand my hardships as you work to teach and mold me so  my life will be of value.  In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
