TEMPTATION

Bible in A Year: Job 30, Job 31, Job 32; Matthew 22:15-46;  Psalm 18:16-24

“But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, “Why do you test me, you hypocrites?”
Matthew 22:18 WEB

When Jesus Christ Himself fasted and prayed for forty days and forty nights, the devil tempted Him three times. When He went around to preach, teach, and heal, the Pharisees frequently tempted and harassed Him.  Just as Jesus Christ was tempted, we, disciples of Christ who believe in Him, must be aware that the devil does not fall asleep, but is constantly prowling around to swallow us.

Just as Jesus resisted the devil using the scriptures, we must always keep God’s word in our hearts in order to conquer the temptations in our lives.  James 4:7 says, “Be subject therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Just as Jesus had victory over the devil’s temptations, let us together resist the devil in Jesus’ Name and we too will be victors.

Reflection

Jesus knows what is evil and what is temptation. He called it, “you hypocrites.”
How would you know what you are facing or seeing? How would you discern what is good from evil? To resist the devil, we must know God.
Today, what is tempting you the most? What name would you give it?

Prayer

God, please be near me always so I can resist the devil’s temptations.
In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
