ONE THING I ASK

One thing I ask from the Lord is unshakable faith streaming from my heart and soul. I know He answers my prayer. In 1993, my husband died; my parents and some of my siblings were killed by the enemy. As a result, we had to flee from my village in 1994 and entered into a refugee camp. On July 13, 2007, my daughter and I were resettled in Rochester, New York, in America. Once when I was facing hardship, I borrowed $200 from the money earned from selling calendars for church fundraising. I thought if I played a lottery, I would have more money I could use for buying food. However, I did not win the lottery. I paid back the money. Our parents taught us to set aside God’s money untouched. Playing the lottery can also be considered a form of gambling. I knew it was not God’s will and I had to repent from my mistake. I invited pastors to come and pray for me. Since then, I have not played the lottery. Mark 10:29-30 reads, “Jesus said, “Most certainly I tell you, there is no one who has left house, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or land, for my sake, and for the sake of the Good News, but he will receive one hundred times more now in this time: houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and land, with persecutions; and in the age to come eternal life.”” In America, I have been working for a company for two years. I also work for God and the Gospel in the area of women’s ministry. We were persecuted, but that does not deter me from serving God. I am very grateful. I asked God for obedience. I see my family is blessed. There are different kinds of enemies. Some kill and some tempt you to sin. God received me, taught me His way, and led me to a straight path. May God’s Name be praised forever!
Reflection
In your life, how does God receive you, teach you, and lead you to a straight path? Our parents and brothers and sisters may leave us, but God never leaves us or forsakes us. Do ask for one thing–unshakeable faith that directs you on the right path.

Thank you, Father God. One thing I ask is unshakable faith that produces self-control to avoid what displeases You until the end of my life on earth. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
