GET TO YOUR FEET AND SET OUT TO HIS INVITATION

Bible in A Year: Genesis 29, Genesis 30; Matthew 11:16-30; Psalm 9:7-12

“Then Jacob went on his journey, and came to the land of the children of the east.”
Genesis 29:1  WEB

We read in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Just as Jacob got to his feet and set out to go forward each day, you will also put one foot in front of the other to go somewhere. Sometimes, your friends or your church or your community will invite you. In moving your feet, just like the lyrics of Saw Bleh’s song, “Sometimes, I get burdened and weary; Sometimes, you get burdened and weary.” When we are struggling, do we move our feet towards the invitation offered in Matthew 11:28-30? Jesus is inviting you. Go to Jesus, talk to him through prayer, and listen to him through reading His word. There you will find rest for your body and soul. You will regain your strength and your burden will be lightened. God is preparing a place for you (John 14:2-3).

One of our church members said she could no longer work with us. We lived among unbelievers and if we were divided, we became a stumbling block. This saddened and burdened me. I had no power to change others. I just got to my feet, set out to Matthew 11:28-30, and laid my burden all on Jesus. How I moved my feet towards Jesus’ invitation was by fasting, reading the entire Revelation, and praying. I regained strength and the first song that came to my lips was Hymn# 363, ‘‘My Heart Changed to Love.”  When we laid our burdens on Christ, things changed for the better. We worked together in unity and love. When she left and we had to part, we continued to have a good relationship with fond memories of our times together. Are you struggling and carrying heavy loads, Jesus’ invitation is there for you to get to your feet and set out to His invitation.

Reflection

When we face hardship, worries, and challenges, where do our feet take us? Are there invitations promising rest for you? Jesus is always inviting you.

Prayer

Dear Jesus Christ, let me not be lost and doubtful because of worries and troubles. Please help me to be still and hear your invitation.
In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
