WEAPONS AND POWER

“For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.”

We will see in the news that nations, especially with mighty military capabilities, would display their strength and power to the world on their holidays, National Day, or Armed Forces Day by parading their weapons and troops. Through the exhibition a nation also warns the enemies not to underrate their military strength and mess with them. The intentions of the military forces include upholding territory, security, and sovereignty. 

If we learn about the ministry of Paul, we will find that those, most adversarial and oppositional against him, were from Corinth. Paul described them as “false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as Christ’s apostles” (2 Corinthians 11:13). The enemies of Paul were not just outsiders, they were also in the church who opposed the teaching and writing of Paul. These enemies were articulate, highly persuasive, and also conceited with their self-righteous knowledge and faith. Regrettably, they also misled church members to another Jesus and a different “good news” (2 Corinthians 11:4). Paul taught Corinthian church members to use the weapons of Christ’s patience and humility with the power of God and God will help the church members to be faithful to eternity.    

Reflection

What temptations are out there that might lead us to follow the ones masquerading as Christ’s apostles and believe in another Jesus and a different “good news”?

Dear God, please guide Your children with Your wisdom so the schemes of men would not lead them to become doubtful and pull them away from the church You bought with Your blood.  In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
