GOD IS MY LIGHT

On life’s journey, we go through many difficult experiences. When we face adversity and feel miserable, it can lead to hopelessness and even the desire to cease to exist. We try to find ways to make us happy, but true happiness is not there to grasp. Since I was little, fights, not love, inhabited my home. My mother served in the church, but I never saw my father attend church because he had to find work somewhere else. Whenever he came home, he instigated fights and used alcohol. He was also physically abusive toward my mother. My older brothers, unfortunately, followed his steps. Each day, my mother had to make a living by selling goods, and I tried to help her and take care of my younger siblings as much as I could. This went on for so long and there was never peace in our home. I always hoped my home would be filled with love. Growing up, my heart was full of pain and my thoughts often took me to a very dark place. I could no longer take it and left home. But, God prepared for me to meet with those who love me and encourage me with the word of God. I started studying the Bible and prayed, which gave me strength. Since I met Jesus Christ personally, I have peace and contentment. Now, my mother is born again and often testifies of God’s love. Her heart is filled with scriptures and humility. As a good mother, she also invites my father and siblings to repent and draw near to God. It is my fervent hope that, one day, God will perform a miracle for my family. “Yahweh is my light and my salvation. Whom shall I fear? Yahweh is the strength of my life. Of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1)
Reflection
Satan wants to darken the light within us. In fighting against Satan, how should we let God’s light rule our hearts and lead our ways?
Prayer
Dear Father, may Your light rule our lives and lead our ways for ever and ever. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
