PARDON

Bible in A Year: Deuteronomy 15, Deuteronomy 16:1-20; Luke 13:1-35,
Luke 14:1-14; Psalm 44:1-12

“At the end of every seven years, you shall cancel debts.”
Deuteronomy 15:1 WEB

I thank God for pardoning us from our sins when we put our trust in Jesus Christ, God’s Son. John 3:16 tells us, through faith in Jesus Christ, who pardons our sins by sacrificing His life on the cross, we receive eternal life because of His grace and mercy.

We are overjoyed whenever we are freed from any type of bondage.  When I was young, I followed my mother when she went to the forest to cut firewood. I saw a little bird dangling and caught in a spider web. It tried to free itself, but to no avail. I told my mother to rescue the bird and take it home for me to have as a pet. My mother got the bird and I was happy. I made up my mind to take care of it. While I was waiting for my mother cutting wood, I was holding the little bird, but I guess I did not hold it tight enough. It flew out of my hand. The little bird was flapping its little wings and chirping; it was full of joy escaping from a trap. I felt so bad that the little bird flew away from me and I cried. My mother comforted me by saying, “My young child, don’t cry. Because you pardoned this little bird from a snare, you will also be pardoned when you get trapped in danger.” I felt comforted by my mother’s encouraging words. I thought if my mother did not remove the bird off a spider web, it would have become the spider’s meal and faced death.  Likewise, had it not been for God’s love and saving grace that redeemed us with Jesus’ blood, we would have become children of the devil and face eternal death.  God pardons our sins, and He also wants us to pardon others’ wrongdoings, just as He wanted the Isaraelites to pardon those who owed them debts.

Reflection

Is there a need for you to pardon someone?

Prayer

God, please cleanse and sanctify our hearts, and help us so we can pardon others’ wrongdoings against us. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
