JESUS IS IN OUR BOAT OF LIFE
Bible in A Year: Joshua 1, Joshua 2; Luke 21:5-38; Proverbs 10:11-20

God’s promises we read in Joshua 1:5b, “…I will be with you; I will not fail you nor forsake you,” reminds me of the event described in another part of the scripture. We read in Mark 4:37-38 that Jesus and his disciples were in a boat going across the lake. A furious storm came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care that we are dying?”
For the disciples, it was a very frightening moment. The disciples who followed Jesus felt and believed they would sink. They even wondered if Jesus was aware of their trouble. On our life’s journey, we who follow Jesus may also feel as if Jesus is asleep when we face the storms of life. We get very fearful our boat of life will sink. We get extremely worried and tired of life. Doesn’t Jesus know? These thoughts are bound to enter our mind.
In the end, the disciples woke Jesus up and asked, “Teacher, don’t you care that we are dying?” Jesus replied, “Do you still have no faith?” Why did Jesus ask them about their faith? Because Jesus is in the same boat as they are. Jesus neither left them nor forsook them. Likewise, we also need to remember Jesus does not leave us or forsake us. We need to remember Jesus is with us and will give us strength to face the storms. We have to believe in Him. He will guide us with peace. No matter how strong the storms of life get, remember Jesus is with you, He is in your boat, and “nothing can separate us from the love of God” (Romans 8:35-39).
Reflection
When we face the storms of life, do we believe in Jesus? Does our faith in Jesus waiver with the waves of the storm? How can we let Jesus strengthen our faith?
Prayer
God, please guide us and give us faith that is firmer, stronger, bigger, and greater. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
