THE LOST TIGER BONE
Bible in A Year: Genesis 24:1-67; Matthew 9:14-38; Psalm 8:1-9
“The man bowed his head, and worshiped Yahweh. He said, “Blessed be Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his loving kindness and his truth toward my master. As for me, Yahweh has led me on the way to the house of my master’s relatives.””
Genesis 24:26-27 WEB
Abraham’s senior servant found that God is gracious and true to His word. He praised God for leading them. Likewise, I find that God does miracles in my life when I face sad and worrisome times. He delivers me and makes my life richer and easier. When I was 13 years old, I came back from school one day and found a piece of bone that was smelly. I thought the cats ate something bad and regurgitated. I picked up the bone and threw it away. In the evening when I was reading and doing my homework, I noticed my parents were still up. They were usually asleep by this time. I popped in their room and asked if everything was okay. My father replied, “It’s your mom. She wanted the tiger bone so badly. I went through all odds to get her one. Now she can’t find where it is.” I asked, “What does the bone look like? I found one that looked like a shoulder bone.” My father said, “That’s the one. It’s the tiger bone. Where is it?” I told him I threw it away. My father scolded me, “Go and find it. Unless you find it, don’t come back and sleep.” The rain was pouring at that time. I took a lamp and an umbrella and ventured into the night to find the tiger bone. I thought the smelly bone would have been eaten by my mother’s three cats. Even if the dogs did not eat it, how am I going to find it in the thick grasses and weeds? I was also afraid a snake would bite me. I was overcome with worries. I still had not finished my homework. There was only one way and it was to pray to God. I only knew the Lord’s Prayer that my mother taught me. I kept reciting, walking around the house, crying, and searching. I thought my father did not love me anymore. Although I was only 13, I knew there was no way I would find the bone had it not been for God’s help. The God who is merciful and gracious listened to a child’s prayer and made her life easier. When I got to the east side of the house, I stepped on something. I picked it up. There was the tiger bone! I was overjoyed. This experience strengthened my faith. If the God we worship is merciful enough to care about a child’s worry about a tiger bone and did not forsake her, I believe this same God will care for me and lead me for the rest of my life.
Reflection
What is your perspective on difficult experiences? These experiences can be lessons. They can draw us closer to God. They can strengthen our hearts so we can become more mature.
Prayer
God, thank you for helping me when I faced worrisome times. Even when I walked through death’s valley, you were there with me and helped me. I thank you in Jesus’ name. Amen.
