Thirty six years ago, it was about time for me to go back to the Bible school, but I did not have the school fees for the entire academic year. My father had a buffalo. A buffalo was all he had. Each day, he and his buffalo worked hard in the field. One day, two men approached him. These men bought and sold cows and buffalos. They saw my father’s buffalo, liked it, and asked to buy it. My father had never sold a buffalo before so he did not know the proper price of the buffalo. They offered 2,500 Kyats. My father did not haggle. He easily agreed as his mind was focused on being able to pay for my school fees. Then, the two men said they did not have the money with them. They would come back in a day or two to pay for the buffalo. They took the buffalo in 1984, and since then, no payment has been made. We do not know where the buffalo was taken. When the time came, I went to school. It has been 33 years since I graduated from the Bible school. The buffalo’s price has not been paid. My father no longer lives.
In everything, “sureness” is indispensable. With anything, if we just think, or guess, or “someone tells me,” problems or confusions are likely to arise. When Jesus asked, “Who do you say I am?,” the answers were, “They told him, “John the Baptizer, and others say Elijah, but others, one of the prophets” (Mark 8:28). These answers lack sureness. Only Peter’s answer, “You are the Messiah,” was an answer with sureness. Therefore, it is all-important to ascertain that our knowing Christ and our trust in Him have the sureness that Peter’s answer had.
Reflection
Does my knowing Christ and my trust in Him have sureness?
Prayer
God, may I not waiver in knowing and trusting you. Let your Holy Spirit govern me so I can be resolute in my knowing and trusting you, with sureness, to the end. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
