FIGHT WITH THE VOICE,
TRUE AND HOLY

“On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation. You shall afflict your souls. You shall do no kind of work.”

We can learn many things from Number 29, 30, and 31:1-24, but let us study three things:
(1) Sacrifice – Moses taught Israelites how to offer sacrifices as God commanded. In Numbers 29:7 we read, “On the tenth day of this seventh month you shall have a holy convocation. You shall afflict your souls. You shall do no kind of work.” Denying ourselves involves humbling ourselves. No matter what we offer to God, we must offer with sincerity and a humble heart. The Pharisees gave much in order to receive praise. However, the poor widow gave two mites with a humble heart. For Christians, Jesus has also warned us not to blow the trumpet when we give (Matthew 6:2).
(2) Direction regarding vows – Numbers 30:3-16 directed that a woman or a wife must be obedient to her father and husband. The power was in the hands of a husband or a father in that tradition in those days. For us today, we draw lessons from Numbers 30:1-2, indicating both man and woman must be equally respectful of each other. When we make a vow we would follow Jesus, or when we make wedding vows, or when we sign off on the 10 statements of commitments to Karen Baptist churches, we ought to take these very seriously. If we are not thoughtful, we could be breaking vows with the Lord.
(3) Fight with good character – Numbers 31:1-24 tells us about Moses fighting the Midianites to preserve good character. Good character comes from knowing God. The Midanites worshipped idols and they enticed the Isralites to adopt their sinful characters. That is why Moses fought hard against them. Believers, families, and churches also have to fight against faith that is false and sinful characters. Included are three wrongs defined by our forefathers, one of which is fornication. Let us give with sincerity and humility! Let us not make vows frivolously! Let us fight with good character.

What kind of temptations are you facing today? Be holy physically and spiritually, keep your promises, fight the temptations with the strength God provides, and we shall be victorious.
