AN ACCIDENT THAT ALMOST ENDED IN DISASTER

Bible in A Year: Numbers 19, Numbers 20, Numbers 21:1-3; Luke 5:33-39, Luke 6:1-11; Proverbs 8:1-11

“But he knew their thoughts; and he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Rise up, and stand in the middle.” He arose and stood.”
Luke 6:8 WEB

When I lived in a village, I had a very good friend, a son of a Roman Catholic church leader, who had a peanut farm close to a Burman village. My friend and I had never been there. The time came to harvest peanuts. However, the east side of the farm had a late start for about two weeks. When that field was ready for harvest, my friend and I, along with two other friends, went to work there. I was wearing a multicolored shirt that my mother bought for me. I loved that shirt because it was a gift from my mother. At that time, there was news spreading around that “head hunters” were out and about. They went around looking for easy prey. The heads were offered as sacrifices for the construction of a bridge or a dam. The rumors had it that head hunters came in three and the leader was wearing a multicolored shirt. After harvesting peanuts until noon, my two friends and I came back to the hut. My other friend decided to continue working. We took shelter under the hut. We picked peanuts out of their shells, while boiling some, eating some, and chatting away. Soon, we had two or three big bags of peanuts. At that time, two Burman villagers saw the three of us with big bags and checked us out from afar for 30 minutes. They asked each other, “The field was already harvested. Wasn’t it?” They returned to their village and told the people, “We saw head hunters. The leader was wearing a multicolored shirt.” Soon, a mob came to us with knives, spears, and swords and surrounded us. Fear gripped my heart and I felt detached from my body. But when they came closer, they saw my friend, whom they had seen and known. They said, “We thought you guys were head hunters and we came to kill you.” I also found out they thought I was the head hunter leader. This was an accident that almost ended up in disaster. This experience taught me that God loves and protects me because He still wants to use me as a little light to testify of His love and protection. Otherwise, I would have turned into ashes. Therefore, God makes everything beautiful in its own time and I am thankful.

Reflection

Many things can end disastrously in a blink of an eye.
Why do you think God is keeping you alive?

Prayer

God, thank you that I am still breathing and standing in front of everyone.  Thank you for using me. Thank you in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
