KEEP WATCH AND PRAY

“But of that day or that hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Watch, keep alert, and pray; for you don’t know when the time is.”

Keeping watch and praying is indispensable in preparing ourselves for the second coming of Christ. We know that we live in an age where there is evil and many things threaten us on earth. The news is filled with worry-inciting information and can really dishearten us. In Mark 13:28, we read, “Now from the fig tree, learn this parable. When the branch has now become tender, and produces its leaves, you know that the summer is near.” There are signs in what we see today, informing us that Jesus Christ is coming back soon. We believers can face challenges and handle worries that stir up only by reading the scripture, praying, and connecting with God. Mark 13:20 tells us, “Unless the Lord had shortened the days, no flesh would have been saved; but for the sake of the chosen ones, whom he picked out, he shortened the days.” We know Jesus loves us so much. He will shorten the days of the misery for us, but at the same time, we need to keep in mind that He is allowing us to live more days so we will repent, come back to Him, and inherit what He prepared ahead for us.
Reflection
Are we alert to what is going on in this age and time? Do we lean on the scripture to gain understanding? Jesus gives us guidance and talks to us each day.
Prayer
Father God, please teach us to be your children, always preparing ourselves by keeping watch, praying, and repenting, to be more deserving of your acceptance by grace each day. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
