MAKE NO AGREEMENT WITH OTHER GODS

After finishing seventh grade in my youth, summer came and my mother asked me to babysit a Chinese lady’s two small children. She needed help because she had to travel for her trading job. This Chinese lady had an older sister, who was a spinster. Every morning and every evening, she lit the candles and turned on bright beautiful lights in front of the statues. Then, she bowed down and worshipped the idols according to her customs. I sat and watched her every morning and every evening. One day, after she went through her ritual, she told me, “My god died, and the god you worship died too. Both our gods died. There is no reason to criticize each other.” I said, “I agreed with you.” Later, one of her relatives died. We went to the funeral and I joined them in bowing down and worshipping the monks.
One day, my cousin, who graduated from a Bible school, visited me. I told her about my experience at the Chinese lady’s house. She replied, “You must be crazy. You got baptized. You are a Christian. You don’t know your God. That’s just not good. You lose big time. Jesus Christ, whom we worship, died three days and resurrected from death. He did not die forever.” I realized I lived like this Karen saying, “A duck swims in neck-deep water, it doesn’t know if it is in deep or shallow water.” I repented and studied the word of God. I now know the God I worship lives forever.
Reflection
Do you know the truths about the God you worship?
Believing false things about God will lead you into agreeing with other gods. Exodus 23:24 – “Don’t worship their gods or follow their customs. Instead, destroy their idols and shatter their stone images.”
Prayer
Thank you God, for being the God, who loves us, has mercy on us, and does not punish as we deserve. Instead, You give us life to live with Christ. We thank you and praise you. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
