THE WORDS OF MY MOUTH AND THE MEDITATION OF MY HEART

Bible in A Year: Exodus 6:13-30, Exodus 7, Exodus 8; Matthew 26:47-68; Psalm 19:7-14

“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, Yahweh, my rock, and my redeemer.”
Psalm 19:14 WEB

We read in Exodus 6:30, “Moses said before Yahweh, “Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh listen to me?”” God told Moses and Aaron to deliver the Israelites to the promised land and to speak to Pharoah to let the people leave Egypt (Exodus 6:13). God called Moses to be the mediator between God and the Israelites. This became a problem for Moses because he was not a good speaker. For human feelings of anxiety naturally come up when a big responsibility is given. Although Moses had a weakness, the words of his mouth came from God and Pharaoh had to listen.

Psalm 19:8 tells us, “Yahweh’s precepts are right, rejoicing the heart. Yahweh’s commandment is pure, enlightening the eyes.” Even King David had to repent from his sin and plead with God to make his heart pleasing in God’s sight. David’s heart was not right to the point where he sinned against God. He confessed his sin and came to the realization that “Yahweh’s precepts are right, rejoicing the heart.” God’s holy words give light to his eyes. If the words of our mouth or the meditation of our heart come from the Lord, our words will not harm nor will our heart transgress. Let God guard and rule over the words of your mouth and the meditation of your heart.

Reflection

How does God want you to speak? How does God want your heart to meditate?

Prayer

God, please teach me how to speak. Please teach my heart how to meditate.  In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
