Week 19
Helplessness
Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.
2 Corinthians 1:7
What do you do when you feel helpless? I feel helpless about the situation in my country, Burma, after the military coup happened in 2021. I often hear my relatives and friends from Burma say, “Nowhere in Burma is safe right now; the situation is so bad that we have no hope; the world is ignoring us.” It is unknown at this time what will happen to the people of Burma. Besides the fear of physical harm, the people of Burma are facing hunger and helplessness. They are restless and exhausted physically, mentally, and spiritually. However, Christians from Burma know that their only hope is in Christ. How do we navigate the valley of helplessness? Jesus dwelt among the helpless and hopeless. Jesus offers us hope and a fresh perspective on the darkness in our lives. While we are finite, time-bound people, Jesus is infinite and timeless and can see the larger picture of our lives. No matter what the people of Burma are going through right now, I believe God will see them through it. And that gives me ultimate hope.
Gracious God, please always remind us that our help comes from the Lord, who is the Maker of heaven and earth. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
