Week 18
HOPE IN THE LORD
Psalm 130:7 – “Israel, put your hope in the LORD, for with the LORD is unfailing love and with him is full redemption.” (NIV)
In 2014, something began to stir in me and I became interested in starting a program which provides care and support to children from needy families, whose parents are not able to give them care and support. Since then, I started praying daily that if it is by God’s will, this idea that I had in mind would become a program that is pleasing to Him. I spoke to the leaders in my community and they were supportive of my idea. It took a little over 2 years for my prayer to be answered. Sometime in October 2016, I began by attending a training school to prepare myself for this program. At the end of the training course, I returned home and my husband informed me that he had researched on the necessary materials needed to start building a physical establishment. This place would become a shelter for these needy children to stay. I was elated and praised God for my supportive husband.
Truth to be told, I did not ask for help from anyone. I took a big leap of faith in God alone and I trusted God would send me the people I needed for this establishment. I did not begin this endeavour for self-gain or to achieve good repute. My purpose was for God’s glory to be seen and for this program to be beneficial to those who needed God’s love. I believed this endeavour is not my personal endeavour but God’s endeavour so He would send the people He wished to use to look after these needy children.
In 2016, we started accepting children and this program became an establishment under the Dawei Myeik missionary organization. Twenty-two children first arrived at our humble bamboo establishment. We saw that these children were really in desperate need of care and attention. First off, we had to get them clothes and treat their illnesses. Ten out of the 22 had tuberculosis so we had to get them treated first. God sent people whom we needed so they could work along with us in our endeavour. The people who have been helping us since we first started off in 2016 were the ones who approached us and not the other way around. I believe that it was the Holy Spirit that sent these wonderful helpers to our establishment. Some of these supporters/helpers were complete strangers. Some were from overseas and there were also some who were neither Karens nor Christians. They sought us out and donated to our establishment. Such great support would not have been possible without God. We may be mere human beings but we have to trust that the God we worship is almighty and powerful.
The Word of God in Psalm 34:5 reads, “Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.” May the LORD’s name be glorified for He does great and wonderful things. May God’s people whose hearts have been stirred be blessed in their work. And may the LORD’s name be praised because of their work, and through their work, May God glorify them!

REFLECT
Is there something that is stirring inside of you today? Are you going to make the necessary first step? What do you hope to accomplish? Have you been praying ceaselessly that you will be able to serve God but you have not received God’s answer to your prayers?
More often than not, it may seem like our prayers are not answered. It is not that God is not answering you. He is actually giving you time to get ready to receive the blessing and use it for His glory. Do not be disheartened for He sees you. Always hope in the LORD.
PRAYER FOR THE READER
Dear God, please bless Your children reading this devotional journal. When You plant an idea in Your children’s heart, help them to put their hope in You so they will not hesitate to take a step forward and act on this idea that is pleasing to You. Please give them peace so they will not waver in their faith. May your children glorify You. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
