OUR FAITH AND THE ACTION OF GOD’S PEOPLE BRING HEALING
Matthew 21:22 – “All things, whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” (WEB)
I am Taw Lu. My father died from COVID-19 on July 26. I knew I also contracted the same illness before my father died. Right after burying my father, I left the village to quarantine myself. I went and lived in a hut on the farm. I was very much afraid I would give the illness to others. I cooked for myself and tried to heal myself to the best of my ability. My head hurt, my fever shot up, my coughs increased. Within a week, things got progressively worse. After 10 days, I could no longer eat. I knew I was going to die. But then I thought about my wife and six-month-old daughter currently living in my wife’s village. I also felt that I had only served God for a few years. If I died, I could no longer serve God on earth. My wife will face tremendous challenges. My daughter will not have a father.
But as a child of God, I believed God could bless and heal me. Claiming Jeremiah 33:3, “Call to me, and I will answer you,…” I asked God for healing. I had no money to buy medicine or food. Things took a worse turn and I could no longer cook for myself. I called and asked people to bring me rice or porridge. Soon, they brought me a bowl of rice with two fried duck eggs. I was coughing so much I could not eat. So, I asked my niece to prepare five onions for me that I was going to take as medicine. I put them in my mouth, let it stay there for a couple minutes, tried to chew it as much as I could, let it stay for a couple minutes more, and then swallowed it. When I was eating those onions, I prayed, “In Jesus’ Name may all the illness in me be healed.” I ate five onions in the Name of Jesus. I felt the coughing go away little by little and I was able to eat rice. I asked my wife to come and stay with me and cook for me. I could not sleep before she came. The next day, she came and boiled Saw Poe Kway leaves as medicine for me. I drank one cup of Saw Poe Kway soup a day in the Name of Jesus. My breathing improved, but I could not walk. If I moved a little, I immediately felt short of breath. But, I praised God for feeling better than before and asked Him for some money to buy nutritious food. God answered my prayer. Unexpectedly, my friends from an organization called Friends of Burma (FOB) sent me 400,000 kyats. Moreover, they also sent medicines that alleviate symptoms of COVID-19, oximeters, two oxygen tanks, an oxygen concentrator, and a power generator. God did marvelous things through FOB for me personally and the villages in my area. I was overjoyed, my tears came rolling down my cheeks. Many of us were sick. We did not have medicine or we could not buy any medicine. There were no hospitals to go to. We used folk medicine and did what we could. So many people died. Once we received those gifts from FOB, my friend, Thrah Kaw Mu Say, who is a medic, used those items to heal people in at least four villages. More than 100 lives were saved. Now that the illness has subsided, we keep the medical supplies in Naung Bo Church with assigned people taking care of these precious healing items. Thrah Kaw Mu Say also provided training on how to use these supplies and how to take care of the sick. I thank God and FOB for giving us the gift of life.

Thrah Taw Lu testifies that in Jesus’ Name, onions and vegetables became medicines that heal. Not only that, Jesus is working through His churches and people to calm the devastating storm of COVID-19. Friends of Burma did not know their help would save more than 100 lives. But when God’s people show God’s passion, God’s power goes to work. Our faith is our healing weapon, and the faith and actions of God’s people bring hope and comfort that soothe our souls.
What are those people most affected by the pandemic saying to the Church?
How can we help people affected by COVID-19 to feel that they have not been forgotten, but loved by God? How can we become the channel of the blessings of God and the hope of the Gospel?

Dear God, please bless Your children reading this devotional journal. We are called to love and care for one another. Please help your children affected by the pandemic to know You are grieving with them and You understand their pain. Please use Your children, especially the ones reading this devotional, to befriend the lonely, bring healing to the sick, comfort the bereaved, and become a channel of God’s blessings. Please have mercy on us. May Your Kingdom come and Your will be done on earth. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
