Week 12
BE STILL AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD
Psalm 46:10 – “Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the earth.” (WEB)
The above passage was written by Korah, the descendant of Levi. Levi was one of the sons of Jacob and Leah. Jacob is the one I admire so much. He was persistent in hope and had deep faith in God. One of the things I admire most about him is that even in the midst of hardship, temptation, disruption and disparagement, he had the perseverance and complete faith in God as his father Isaac did, and he did not waver in his faith. To marry Rachel, Jacob had to work for his father-in-law for 14 years. Although he was tricked by his father-in-law, he waited with patience and sincere hope until he finally had the woman he loved as his wife.
Our community from Minnesota honored Martyr’s Day on August 14-15. 2021. For this event, the Karen Community of Minnesota had a fund drive sale in which I also volunteered and we were so tired from selling things in those two days. My legs hurt so much that I could no longer move. On the last day, when we were about to close our shop, a man came to buy a bottle of water. As I was so tired already, I told him, “Just take it for free, uncle. Take as many as you want.” That man took a bottle of water and left. When it became late and I started to pack things up to go home, the man appeared again and asked me, “How are you going to handle it?” I told him I was going to collect the things and take them home. The man helped me by carrying tables, canopy and all the materials from the shop and putting them into my car. I did not have to carry anything except pointing at the things that I was taking home. I was out of energy myself as my legs, body and arms were in pain. Without the help of this man, it would have been a big trouble to handle all of this on my own.
I have another testimony – in April of 2021 – when my daughter and her family were planning for a vacation in Hawaii and invited me to join them. They bought an air ticket for me. I knew that when I go, I would have to spend some money on food and miscellaneous items. I had no money but I did not let my daughter know that. I prayed that God would help me. Every week on Sunday, I participated in home cell service where I was joined by my friends and their families as we visited different houses for different weeks. One of those weeks, we visited a house and after the visit, the host gave me a donation in an envelope. People usually would donate $20-$50. When I got home and opened the envelope, I saw $500. I had never received this amount of donation in my entire life. I was so thrilled to know that I finally had the money I could spend for the vacation. The message that I want to share with my beloved friends is that as the Bible says, “Be still and know that I am God.” Our Lord God who created us has His Intention and Hope in us that we would live to fulfill His Purpose. At the same time, He knows all of our challenges and needs. God knows what I need, thus He guides and provides for me. The smallest contribution I made ended up being a precious return to me. Only ask and trust Him. He will provide us with what we need.

REFLECT
Is it hard or easy to be still? What are the barriers for you in order to be still in God?
In what ways can we wait on God? How will we come to know God while waiting?
Sometimes our needs are urgent but we will not get it immediately and will have to wait for the time. God knows what kinds of needs we have. He knows whether we should get the answer and help immediately or whether we should wait for the answer. God works in His Time.
Once you have asked, you only wait and trust that you will get the answer. Jeremiah 1:5 – “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I sanctified you. I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.” Psalm 34:8 says “Oh taste and see that Yahweh is good. Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him.”
PRAYER FOR THE READER
Dear God, please bless Your children reading this devotional journal. Bless them in their needs and strengthen them in their faith in you. While living in this world, there will be times when they face life’s challenges. I pray that You will help them to be still and strong in their faith in You. Help them to remember You are omnipotent, you see their sufferings and will fulfill their needs in Your time. Bless them and listen to their prayers, O Lord. Use them for the glory of Your Kingdom. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
