Week 13
GOD MAKES EVERYTHING BEAUTIFUL IN ITS TIME
Ecclesiastes 3:11 – “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in their hearts, yet so that man can’t find out the work that God has done from the beginning even to the end.” (WEB)
In 2012, after working for the Christian Department of Social Services and Development, Dawei-Myeik Association, for three years, I left my job thinking I would go to America and be with my husband. But, when I applied for a visa at the U.S. Embassy in Yangon, I was rejected. I felt devastated and wanted to blame God for not answering my prayer. My dear husband had to remind me that God has been present in my experiences and I should trust in Him even in times when I feel that He does not answer my prayer. In a few days, my mother got sick and she went to Myeik city for medical care. I met her there and found her to be seriously ill, so I took her to Yangon for a higher level of treatment. At that time, my sister was also sick with symptoms of uterus cancer. But we were not sure because she lived in a remote village and there were no doctors to examine and diagnose her. When my mother got treatment in Yangon, my sister also came for treatment. After two and a half months of getting treatment in Yangon, my mother and sister felt better. Since it was their first time in Yangon, we decided to tour around the city. Since I was little, I always sought to learn, which took me away from home. After school, I also worked away from home so there was very little time to be with my mother. The time I had with my mother was very precious as I got to take care of her and also spend quality time with her. After my mother and sister recovered from their illnesses, I took them back home to their village.
Afterward, an opportunity came up for me to work as a Project Manager for the Karen Development Network (KDN). My responsibility was to provide support and resources for villagers to become self-sustaining and independent. This job afforded me to help my people, scattered and displaced due to geopolitical disturbances. I learned so much about the oppression and the suffering they had to endure. It opened my eyes wide and I will always remember my people wherever I am.
After working for a year, I got my American visa. After being in the U.S. for nine months, my mother went to her heavenly home. I realized two purposes God fulfilled for my own good by not allowing me to get an American visa the first time, which was better than my own plan for myself.
- God wanted me to have the opportunity to take care of my mother and my sister before coming to America.
- God wanted me to have the experience of working with my people and understand their suffering so I will never forget them.
God surely does make everything beautiful in its time!

Wait on the Lord, believe in Him, and expect God’s great work in your life.

Dear God, please bless Your children reading this devotional journal. I pray that You will give them steadfast faith, especially when You are working in their life, not giving them the answer they want. Please let them know Your plan for them is better and greater than their plan for themselves. Help them grow so they become more like you in their lives. In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
