Week 48
Uplifting
A happy heart makes the face cheerful,
but heartache crushes the spirit.
Proverbs 15:13
In our Burmese and Karen culture, I rarely hear people describe feeling “uplifted.” There is a mysterious power that an uplifted mood has over physical health. When one has a “crushed spirit” it hurts the body as well. Practically, it means that what is going on spiritually or emotionally affects the body, and what is going on physically in the body affects the spirit. What others see about us on the outside is ultimately based on what we are feeling on the inside. In other words, your face shows your heart. If you are happy inside, it will show outside. If you are sad inside, it will also show outside. Others know your heart by what they can see on your face. When our heart is filled with gladness, it creates an uplifting atmosphere for those around us. This gladness does not come from mere human prosperity – but truly comes from the blessings of the Lord and is maintained by the Lord Himself. There is only one real heart doctor in the universe. Do you know Him? It’s Jesus. Jesus, the heart doctor has the power to easily uplift us with love, joy, peace, hope, and all sorts of other wonderful traits to enlarge our heart and energize our countenance.
Our heart doctor, Jesus, please give us an uplifted heart to be the light of the world.
In Jesus’ Name, we pray. Amen.
